From March 1 to December 31, 2022, with the support of Ziedot.lv and Latvijas Valsts meži, SOCINTEGRA implemented the project “Latvija uz tausti” (“Latvia by Touch”).
The aim was to strengthen the ability of people with
visual impairments to navigate independently in their environment and to create
new accessibility solutions. Within the project:
- regular
classes were organized for blind participants to learn orientation skills
using tactile maps;
- an
interactive tactile sound map of Latvia with a touchscreen was developed
and used — by touching a city, its name is announced;
- specialized
equipment for printing paper tactile maps was purchased;
- cooperation
with specialized institutions was reinforced to ensure sustainable and
high-quality results.
The “Latvia by Touch” project demonstrates SOCINTEGRA’s commitment to creating an environment where everyone can navigate and experience Latvia through touch and sound.
